Do you want to take a trip to the Western Lake District without bringing your car? Luckily for you, you can now reach there by train! With new timetables for the Sunday train, you can now enjoy the beautiful Cumbrian Coast Line. Head there to take in the spectacular view of the Western Lake District. Enjoy the brilliance of nature with a peaceful stroll or bicycle rides. In celebration of Nation Green Transport Week, there are seven different ways you can enjoy the beauty that the Western Lake District has to offer.
Take a Trip to Muncaster Castle
Although the trail from Ravenglass Railway Station to Muncaster Castle is around one and a half miles, the route itself is very peaceful. Have a quiet walk through the tracks filled with history as you make your way to the castle gates. Head for the Roman Bath House and turn left after two junctions, following the signs. This will lead you to the castle entry booth, pass the woodlands and the fields.
Hike the Eskdale Trail
This eight-mile biking trail connects Delagarth to Ravenglass. Cycle around and enjoy the beautiful sceneries laid before you.
Travel up to Black Combe
If you’re looking for a more advanced route, head out to Black Combe from Silecroft Station. Take a gander at the entire Lake District along with the Irish Sea and marvel at their beauty. Plan ahead, use an OS map, and enjoy your time there!
More Trails at Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway
Taking a ride in the Ratty is a big favourite for many families. At the stations, there are even more paths to take on for everyone to enjoy. The journey from Muncaster Fell to St. Catherine’s Church’s stepping stones are all great adventures. At the station themselves, you can grab books written by Wainwright about these beautiful walks these stations have to offer.
Walk the Miles without Stiles
Miles without Stiles are routes that are accessible to those even with limited mobility. From Ravenglass, two Miles without Stiles routes are available, one leading to Saltcoats and the other towards the Roman Bath House. Another course is available at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Thanks to the Boot Riverside Access Project, it now offers an accessible path, both old and new combined.
Enjoy Silecroft Beach
Do you want a place to enjoy peace and quietness? Head over to the Silecroft Beach. About a mile long, this beach is for anyone looking to picnic on the sands. Enjoy the peaceful waters and soft sands as you take in a deep breath.
Take a Tour
If you want a guide to help show you around, there are many guided walks you can take from Ravenglass or even from Ratty in Eskdale. One of many choices is the Esk Estuary Escapade. This guided walk offers many activities such as a ride on the Ratty and a boat ride from Ravenglass. Be sure to book ahead for a guided walk.
